A question about the slang "I'm so busted" Hope native speakers can lend a helping hand?

Well, as a "Native Speaker", I can tell you that the phrase can either mean caught for doing something you shouldn't have, be it by the police or whoever you were trying to hide your actions from. However, at the same time it can mean something like being broke or out of cash. My friends sometimes ask me if I have five dollars to put in on pizza and I'll say, naw man, I'm broke, or I'm busted. Thats really all that it can mean.
